i started getting chest pain above my left breast recently. it's a constant dull pain that often becomes a sharp pain. should i ignore or be seen?

Chest pain needs to: be evaluated by your doc.  It MAY be simple muscle tightness or something more but a doc needs to make that determinations.  The presentation of cardiac issues w/women is different from that of men so please don't look on the net or talk to well meaning folks because it may be mis-information.  Peace and good health.

Chest pain: Among the many possible causes of chest pain are inflammation of muscles or cartilage, reflux of stomach contents, lung disease and heart disease, the latter two including blood clot in the lung and heart attack. Evaluation: You should have your chest pain evaluated by your physician. This could simply be musculoskletetal pain, but a cardiac cause should be considered given the location of the pain. The physician will take a more detailed history and examine you. You may end up getting a stress test and echocardiogram to evaluate for cardiac disease. Chest pain should not be taken lightly!
