Neurological: There are a variety of nerves running along the sides of your head/face. Any burning, cold, tingling, painful jolt, or crawling sensation could be the result of improper stimulation of these nerves = parasthesia. If this is a recurring sensation or you have strange sensations in multiple areas, it might be time to see a neurologist. They can do nerve testing and determine the underlying cause.

Pinched nerve: Arthritis, muscle spasm/stress can lead to pinched nerves in your neck that in turn can send the pain throughout your scalp and behind your eyes.

Many causes: You will nee a neurologic workup if you fall within the following categories : 1. Headache of sudden onset that persists (bleeding); 2. Hedache accompamied by physical findings such as fever, alteration of consciousness, doble vision or weakness; and 3. Headache if you have been previously healthy. In other cases of chornic headache it can be migraine or muscle. Tension headache.

Neuralgia: Such fleeting, Sharp head pains are characteristic of neuralgia which is an irritability/slight inflammation of a superficial scalp nerve and not a brain symptom. Another possibility is an impingement of the nerve on certain motions. The pinching is usually at the neck level where the nerve enters the head. If symptoms persist or worsen see your physician or a neurologist for evaluation and advice

We believe these headaches are mediated through the fifth cranial nerve and simply represent some form of dysfunction of this nerve resulting in the type of headache you&#x27;re describing. A good headache specialist will be able to guide specific treatment for these as they are not migraines, not tension headaches, and not cluster headaches.

HEADACHE: Many types of headaches, + depends on severity, duration, location + other symptoms associated with discomfort.
Your description is  common in tension or muscle tension headaches, and usually is benign.
Recommended treatment initially would be OTC Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen, plus warm compresses to the neck for 15 minutes + avoid outside stress if possible.
If no better or other symptoms, see a doctor.

Headache : Premenstrual headaches are due to a drop in estrogen. If your headaches occur about the same time each period I don't think you need to worry. However if this is a new and different and severe headache you should tell your gyne or primary care dr for a more in depth discussion.

Likely your scalp: Your head is covered with muscle and skin with blood vessels, lymph vessels and small nerves. Together this is called your scalp. Your description sounds like some of the small nerves  in the area where your headache is have been irritated. You could have a bite, pimple, brushed or combed too hard, hit the area for a few possible causes. Try like Ibuprofen if no med problems. See MD if persists.
