Abdominal Pains: Acute abdominal pains can be from a large number of different diseases. Some of these are treated with medicines others may require procedures or surgery. Also sometime abdominal pains can be from other parts of the body. I strongly encourage you to go to your doctor or the ER for an evaluation. They can order blood tests and x-rays to start to find the answer of why you are having pains.

Muscular: Tenderness to the touch usually implies injury to rib or muscle.  Sometimes a muscle tear or injury can be very uncomfortable.  I would recommend trying a few days of an anti inflammatory (ie motrin, advil).

Pain:  bile duct inflammation; gallstones; cancer; angina; heart attack; pneumonia;shingles gastritis; hepatitis; kidney infection, stone or cancer; hiatal hernia; pancreatitis, peptic ulcer, pericarditis; liver hemangioma or abscess; fecal impaction; bowel obstruction & injury. It is best to have chronic abd pain evaluated. Severe abd pain  = er.

The question is why: Why do you have that pain. Getting ride of that pain, requires answering the why? If for example, it is because of an anti-inflammatory, causing gastritis, than it is worthwhile to go to a GI doctor.  In the meantime, an antacid would be fine. But don't stop there, and do go to the GI doctor.
