Viral: Viral conjunctivitis is not treatable with antibiotics and can cause such irritation that the eyes become photophobic (sensitive to light). These usually run their course after making you miserable for a while. Supportive care, like staying out of bright light and using lubricant drops may help.

Not only can this intensify the pain, it may also increase sensitivity to convergent sensory stimuli such as light (photophobia) and sound (phonophobia).

Common migraine: Your symptoms sound like a migraine, (the severity, and the light sensitivity), and tylenol (acetaminophen) is likely not strong enough to treat a migraine headache.  Resting in a dark room, may help, but you may need to see a doctor for a stronger medication.
