how can you stop a second degree burn (blister) from scarring?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Second degree burns are broken into two categories - superficial and deep.  Superficial 2nd degree burns usually heal with minimal scarring, while deeper burns scar.  The damage has already been don and this cannot be reversed.  If in doubt, consult with your physician.

we started using bacitracin already for a second degree burn with blisters. i was told to use it. is it ok?

NO!!!!!: Bacitracin does not prevent infections. Bacitracin is a common sensitizer. It is one of the most common causes of allergic reactions. Usually the reactions just cause local itch, redness, swelling, poor wound healing. A few deaths have occurred. Treat it with water irrigation and vaseline or Aquaphor.

Accepted Answer

Clean site: Keep the area clean and dry. Apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment three times daily and aloe vera cream three times daily until well. Watch for signs of infection such as swelling and redness.

how do you treat a second degree burn if the blisters split?

Accepted Answer

: Keep the area clean with soap &amp; water and or peroxide. Dry the area using a hair dryer at a no heat setting as needed.  Apply a small amount of antibiotic ointment to cover the area. Cover loosely and check the site twice daily. If it dries out &amp; does not drain or get redder, you are doing fine.

have a 1" second degree burn on arm blister popped@work now i have itching red rash and swelling 3"around. what should i do about it?

Burn: I strongly suggest that you have someone take you to the nearest Emergency facility.
I am confident they will help you control your current problem.
Won't go away overnight but it should not take more than 2 or 3 days - getting better every day.

Depends: The new healing skin under the blister will be thin, pink & sensitive to touch. Infection would be redness and swelling in the normal skin around the blister. Itching can be normal. Without an exam i cannot tell what you mean by "bubbles." if you are concerned about infection, see your doctor very soon.

Burn Care: Blisters should be opened and base cleaned up. Silvadene (silver sulfadiazine) creme and. Gauze for dressings usually. The hand is important and worth having a burn doctor follow up on the injury to be sure no complications result that might limit movement.

Won't hurt: If you broke the blister it is not the end of the world. You need to keep it clean and cleanse thoroughly every day with soap and water. Then you can apply the antibiotic cream. You will want to wrap and keep it covered until the area is covered and not longer draining. If becomes red you could either have infection or allergy to cream

burnt my leg and i have a tattoo that is only 10 months old in the same spot. the burn was initially scaly and felt rough; it formed a blister three days after the initial injury. will the ink cause infection? its second degree, so down to dermis?

: Having a burn over a tattoo may result in an infection from the skin bacteria entering from the outside.  The 10 month old tattoo will not be the cause of the infection/inflammation although some people have allergic reactions to the ink, especially red ink

Great Question: Not even all burn units agree on this. However, i would suggest that you don't pop it, but have it seen by an appropriate specialist.
