Dramamine (dimenhydrinate): U  can use dramamine (dimenhydrinate) otc (over the counter).  A more effective medication is scopolamine patch (prescription).  These help for the sea sickness feeling.  It may help for vomiting.  But generally different prescription medications r better for vomiting (ex.Promethazine).  The most important thing w/ vomiting is dehydration.  In other words you don't anything as long as u can maintain hydration.

Sprain: Severe vomiting is often associated with chest and abdominal pain transiently due to the sprain from the violent vomiting. Try ice pad or heating pack depending on which works best for you.  If the problem fails to improve in another week or gets worse , see your doctor.

Interestingly with pyelonephritis - kidney infection vomiting is the main symptom sometimes.

Migraine?: Migraine sufferers are prone to motion sickness.  If this is something that has just started, it wouldn't be a bad idea to see a neurologist or ENT to make sure you don't have an inflammation of the middle ear nerve, the vestibular nerve, which is most likely viral and treatable.

Cyclical vomiting: You probably have cyclical vomiting of the adult as a carryover from your youth. The exact cause of the syndrome is unknown but some people feel it may be a form of migraine and in fact some results have been achieved with migraine medication.

Hospital: If you are at the hospital then let the hospital decide that. Do not try this yourself as you can risk other complications. Usually though IV Phenergan (promethazine) is used most of the time for nausea where as dramamine is usually taken 30 minutes before known motion sickness.

First : Once vomiting started nothing can be given orally, just IV or intra muscular. Both drugs are histamine blockers bit have a relaxing effects too. I would try with benadryl (diphenhydramine). If in i would dilute it in saline and inject very slowly. Hope it will help. Did you try scopolamine patches before being exposed to motions?

yesterday i got nauseous on subway (no vomiting/dizziness), today ear started hurting.is the motion sickness bec i was coming down w ear infection?

Possibly: It's very possible that the nausea was related to an early ear infection. Your balance mechanism is in your inner ear and with infection around that area, you could have motion sickness type of symptoms (including nausea). I suggest seeing your Dr asap for evaluation.

such thing as dramamine tolerance?i get motion sickness & it always works but today on the plane i took 100mg 2hrs before landing.yet still vomited!

NO tolerance: You have obvious motion sickness and Dramamine is not 100% effective. This medication should be taken 30-45 minutes before travel. Other suggestions would be to switch to Dramamine -2 ( meclizine-25mg ) or a scopalamine patch. Consult with you PCP.
