seven yrs ago i had an mri of skull base. "superior portion of my clivus extending to posterior aspect of sphenoid sinus and sella. mri--generally low t1 high t2 signal intensity." most of lesion no enhancement. could this get worse in 7/8 years?

i have a defect in my skull base(cribrifrm plate)been told there is a risk of losing taste and smell prrmenantly when repair!how high is the risk?

why doesn't the human skull get smaller after loosing alot of weight ? my friend weigthed about 300lbs, now he weight 160lbs and has a big head :(

Bone mass is: fixed after maturation at it's adult size and is not affected during weight loss.  Your friend's head only appears larger in relation to his/her girth which is now apparently one half what you were used to seeing.  In a short time you will see that it appears normal.  He or she should be congtatulated,

sometimes when i turn my head quickly  i get this immense pain in the base of my skull the pain only lasts for about 5 seconds. what does that mean?

A pinched nerve or: It it is possible that you have a higher-up cervical nerve (occipital nerve) that is being pinched with rapid/forceful head turning, but being 18, more likely it is a cervical muscle spasm. I suggest some warm compresses along with gentle range of motion/stretching to the affected side, and use of aleve/motrin for a wk or so. If not better, consult your doc. Good luck.

if l turn head slightlyor inawkward direction, get this jolt going through my skull it's like electricity & fire  surging in my head warmsup in30sec?

Jolt: Your cervical nerves are irritated and may be entrapped. See a neurologist.

i get a very  sharp headache at the top of my skull when i straighten back up after i bend over, not when bent over.  lasts 10 seconds, goes away.  ?

See your doctor: Pain that severe needs to be worked up by your doctor in person.  He/she will listen to you, perform an examination and possibly order some tests to see what's wrong with you.

i'm curious what could happen if there is no replacement of skull cap after a craniotomy?

Headaches: It would cause headaches and other risks can also occur including hydrocephalus or bleeding.  Obviously, the brain is not protected.

does a man's head circumference/cranium or skull really get bigger until his late 20s or 30s?

Accepted Answer

Usually not: Unless there are hormonal abnormalities, head size should be stable by late teens or early twenties.
