: With that pattern of symptoms, I suspect your scalp has been invaded by either fungal or bacterial germs. I would go to your doc or a dermatologist for assessment so a correct plan of treatment can be defined before you scar the area.

Folliculitis/acne: folliculitis and acne may both become infected by bacterial contamination. The benzoyl peroxide will help for acne; however, the folliculitis may require both antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication.

Possible Testosteron: You may have symptoms of androgen (male hormone) excess.
These may cause acne, and alopecia.
Check MD for testosterone levels, if not on the pill which reduces it, and be checked for the many causes, often PCOS or an drenal source.

Depends on diagnosis: It could be seborrheic dermatities, in which case a sulfur type shampoo used regularly to all hairy areas may help; it may also be a form of acne, in which case low fat diet, and a tetracylcine antibiotic may help. In winter, skin gets very dry and this may be a type of exzema or dry skin condition--moisurizer (no added chemicals). Hair loss too...Dermatologist.

Ignore "pop" advice: For your acne, topical benzoyl peroxide and/or retinoic acid. If you're not clear in two weeks, phone your physician. All guys lose the hair on our temples at age 20 or so. If you're naturally hairy-chested you're likely to have more hair loss; ask your physicain about meds. Other hair loss calls for a thyroid blood test and check for telogen effluvium etc.

? PCOS: Have you been evaluated for pcos?. This is the most common cause of the symptoms you describe and may be treatable with birth control pills and a testosterone blocker. It is a good idea to have a full evaluation by a reproductive or medical endocrinologist  before starting treatment.

It should not: If it does, it is worth the risk. Acne can be managed; usually topical benzoyl peroxide is sufficient. It's difficult to know what to make of accounts of sudden hair loss in people on this medication; emotional turmoil can do this to people. Even if it is real, it is a small price to pay for relief of the terrible, private pain for which this medicine is usually prescribed. Be brave and go ahead.

Murad: Unfortunately, there have been numerous posts in murad forum with murad side effects. Murad may cause common unpleasant side effects of acne products:
dandruff, 
rash, 
dryness, 
skin irritation and itching, 
headaches, 
increased sunburn susceptibility, 
nail abnormalities, 
nausea, diarrhea, 
and others.

Antiandrogens: Antiandrogens are used for acne, pattern hair loss and unwanted hair all the time.  The one I use most is spironolactone.  It works well for many women.  With spironolactone, care must be taken to avoid extra potassium intake and pregnancy must be avoided when on any antiandrogens.  Spironolactone may have some side effects such as irregular menses, breast tenderness, but is usually well tolerated.
