Depends: In true scabies the mite dies after it is exposed to treatment (permethrin) fairly soon after treatment. However, and this is the gross part, the major reaction is to the scabies droppings left behind. This material is very irritating and causes the characteristic itching one experiences. This particular symptom can take weeks to "cool down" and may require topical or even oral steroids.

Give it time: Most scabies treatments, such as permethrin, work very well, but rash and itching still can continue as long as 3 weeks. The symptoms of scabies are mostly allergy to the mites, their eggs, and droppings. The medicine kills them, but it takes time for their bodies and the other stuff to break down. Until then, the symptoms often continue. If it has been more than 3 weeks, get rechecked.

Dermatologist is: the best way to go.  In the meanwhile, think about possible changes you may have made in your laundry detergent, clothing, etc.  Food sensitivities and low B12 are also possibilities.  Peace and good health.

See below: It's recommended to receive  two treatments with 5% Permethrin 1 week apart.  Make sure that you treat your whole body from chin to toes and leave the Permethrin on your skin for 8 to 14 hours before washing it off.

i went to the er due to a rash on my left arm, that started spreading. they diagnosed scabies and a cream treatment about 3 months ago, i had everyone in my home treated and they never showed or had any symptoms. my sores are not healing and itch????

: You should go see a dermatologist who can examine your rash and determine what is causing it. Sometimes, they can take a scraping and look at it under a microscope. If it is not scabies, you would need a different treatment. If it is scabies, there are different treatments for that as well. You have been itchy for long enough! Best of luck!
