And at the direction of the doctor to do throat swab for quick strep test or culture&amp; give Tylenol (acetaminophen) for fever

It depends: Depending on the age of your baby and what is going on, there are a number of possibilities. In a newborn, if your baby is sick, poor feeding may be a symptom. In an older infant who is eating solid foods, your baby may be getting more calories from the solids and more physically active (and also more efficient at nursing), so the feedings may be spreading apart. Good weight gain is a great sign.

You shouldn't: Salmonella is a huge risk for infants as this is one of the infections that is very much dependent on how mature your immune system is. As much as i may be with you in enjoying cookie dough, the raw egg is way too risky for salmonella infection which may be nothing for you but could be a quite serious illness for an infant.

Yes: I advise mothers to let their newborns set their own feeding schedules with the exception of premies, small babies and newborns who aren't gaining weight well.  In those cases moms should feed every 2-3 hours during the day.  Older infants who are growing well can have their feeds delayed, particularly if they are eating solids.  Usually the child will figure this out by themselves.

Yes: This is normal.  Most of this is likely true feeding and necessary but some babies will use breastfeeding s a pacifier.  Essentially true feeding is vigorous and consistent.  Suck, suck, breath...  Pacifying feeding is 30-40 minutes later and more like  suck, snooooooooze, suck, snoooooze.  During this phase of feeding baby isnt eating, just pacifying.  That feeding can be stopped.

what is the best diet to be on if i am nursing?

Eat healthy: Your overall health is most important.  Eat healthy, sleep well and excercise.  Do not smoke and light on alcohol.  Your baby is bonding with you and needs you in good health.  Breast milk is only a small part of that process.
