Stage of cancer: This sounds very serious. Cancer is staged to help understand the treatments and expectations for success with treatment, part of the risk/benefit analysis. Stage 4 is cancer that has spread or progressed significantly outside the organ where it started. Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4 have diminishing expectations for treatment success. Take a friend with you to next appointment. You have choices. Be well.

Pain: You may have a pilonidal cyst which may be infected. See your doctor for evaluation.

Need further eval: would be unusual if its cancer.
No sure what the swollen nodes in our neck are all about or if it's related
may need biopsy-
possibly CT for further eval.

Possibly: Hard to know unless you get a physical exam by a physician.  Most soft tissue masses are benign (not cancerous)- i.e. Lipomas, cysts, etc.. But there are cancerous masses that can occur anywhere.  See your physician.

Doctor can evaluate: A woman with abnormal vaginal bleeding (bleeding is too heavy, too many days, too frequent, or none at all) should always follow up with her primary care physician or obstetrician-gynecologist. Cervical cancer is just one of many possible causes of abnormal bleeding. Other causes include uterine cancer, hormonal problems, infections, etc... Cancer treated early has better cure or survival rates.

Unlikely: Prostate biopsy secondary to elevated psa is usually what leads to the diagnosis. Prostate nodule on digital rectal exam (dre) is another method. Unless locally advanced prostate cancer generally is without symptoms. Bone pain related to prostate cancer can occur due to advanced metastatic disease; however, that is not the usual initial presentation.

Hopefully: This antiandrogen medication in certain cases of metastatic prostate cancer can prevent further spread and/or reduced  new  metastatic involvement  and slow the growth of prostate cancer. The oncologist knows much more about this medication than we other MDs do and can advise you best.

: At your age cancer would be low on a list of possibilities. You could be experiencing simple tightness of paravertebral muscles or discomfort from disc disease,verterbral spurs or arthritis of the spine. Tightness may be noted in bed as you relax &amp; muscles are not braced. Arthritis or degenerative disc disease may be worse on activity. Your physician or orthopedic specialist can examine and advise

It depends on the si: Any lumps that are pailess and growing in size over a period of 1 or 2 months require examination by a physician to check for cancer. I would not be concerned unless it has a size over a quarter(one inch or more)and it has been present more than 4-6 weeks and appears to be getting bigger.

34, f. how common is it for a mild dull ache in lower back to be caused by cancer? no fam hx cancer, father has back issues. could i inherit them?

Accepted Answer

Uncommon: Back pain due to muscle/ligament strain is FAR more common than pain due to cancer.  One should have a primary doctor and get at least annual checkups, get appropriate screening tests and to discuss concerns such as these so that the physician can perform a comprehensive history and exam, hopefully, to provide further reassurance with more information.
