Inflammatory: Sarcoidosis is an inflammatory disease affecting many parts of the body particularly the lung.  There are publications suggesting that its development is related to mold exposure but this needs further confirmatory study. In general, the cause for sarcoidosis is unknown.

Systemic inflammatio: It is the abnormal collections of chronic inflammatory cells (granulomas) that can form as nodules in multiple organs, sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease that can affect any organ.  It may be asymptomatic or chronic. It commonly improves or clears up spontaneously. It can affect the lungs, liver, skin, heart, and nervous system.

Wide range.: There is a wide range of sarcoidosis.  For some patients, it is just something they know by name, but don't have to think about.  For others, it can be a source of continued medical attention.  Hard to say what the future holds for you without a complete evaluation.

? need treatment : Many cases of sarcoidosis are asymptomatic and progress slowly or not at all and require no treatment.  Other cases  can progress rapidly and require aggressive treatment, usually with steroids.  You should seek consultation with a specialist who deals with sarcoidosis regularly to determine whether or not you require treatment.

Sarcoidosis: Patients whose eyes, heart, nervous system, or lungs are involved may need to be treated with corticosteroids (prednisone or methylprednisolone). Therapy may continue for 1 or 2 years. The most severely affected patients may need lifelong therapy.
Drugs that suppress the immune system (immunosuppressive medicines) are sometimes also needed:methotrexate, or azothioprine or cyclophosphamide.

Question: If a person has sarcoid and if they have gastrointestinal involvement (clinically evident GI involvement occurs in less than 1% of sarcoidosis), then liver involvement is probable. Have your GGT and alkaline phosphotase checked. If normal, less danger w/ moderate alcohol. The main thing is to determine extent of sarcoid involvement so it doesn't dominate your social, sex, work life.

Depends on severity: Most people with lung or pulmonary sarcoid require no treatment.  If you have only intermittent problems steroids are the main treatment.  If you have severe disease or chronic problems immunosuppressive therapy such as Imuran (azathioprine) is often used.  Influenza is best treated by prevention.  If you get this it is treated the same with or without sarcoid

Accepted Answer

It depends: Lung sarcoid has several different phases. The lymph nodes, lungs, or both can be affected. If your lung symptoms are significant, a doctor may treat you with Prednisone and or other medications like Methotrexate or Remicade (infliximab). If your symptoms are mild, often you may not need any treatment; just monitoring. I am not sure what "enfluzema" is. ??
