my best friend has a round of pneumonia and they found a cyst about 5 cm in his lung. they said cyst . he is 65 could it be a tumor?

Mgt: The cyst may represent an area of infection. A follow up study should be performed. If he is a smoker, has a history of smoking in the past, and/or produces sputum, he should have sputum cytologies sent by your PCP. If there is no recent TB test, this can be performed at the same time. A virtual appointment is available online and the radiograph can be uploaded.

my md diagnosed pneumonia, been on 2 rounds of meds still have a deep cough 4 weeks later. should i worry?

No: You may still be healing from the damage caused by the pneumonia and the cough is a sign of the healing process. The lungs may be more reactive after a pneumonia and if the cough comes with shortness of breath a short term inhaler may help. Depending on the extent of the pneumonia the healing process may take a while. If your mucus changes consistency see your doctor who may culture the mucus.

Possibly: Vap is a major cause of morbidity  in the ICU and prevention should make a difference in mortality and morbidity. Sepsis bundles have been demonstrated to do that.

Second opinion: One way to allay your concern would be to get a second opinion from a pulmonologist/lung specialist. It is not feasible to provide an opinion without examining you and the imaging studies.

i have been hit by my second round of flu in two weeks. my fever is 38,2 and ongoing for 24hours and i have extensive body pains and a productive cough.  when should i start being concerned that it might be pneumonia?

Persistent fever: If your fever persists longer than 48 hours, or if there is chest pain, shortness of breath, please see your physician. There is an increased risk for pneumococcal pneumonia with influenza infection.

my son (5 years) is taking the antibiotic - omnisef for pneumonia
he took the medication today night and after 45 mins he threw up most part of his food. is there a need to take another round of medication or can he skip it for today? please advice

Omncicef: If taken befire his dinner, then no need to take another round, it would have been absorbed already into his system, if otherwise, no harm of repeating the dose, wish you and your son wellness

Pneumonia Sequela:  We don't know the organism that caused your pneumonia. I am imagining that it was fairly severe since you were hospitalized.  However, the fact that you continue to have difficulty with breathing, means that it would be very important to follow up with your provider.
