i have osteophytes in my lumbar spine along with mild scoliosis. what's the prognosis for something like this?

That depends more on: Other factors including: smoking status, body weight, exercise routine and your family history of arthritis/spine issues.  A mild scoliosis usually is not a factor and osteophytes are typical findings as we age.  So by themselves, the mild scoliosis and osteophytes do not predict any prognosis.

would like to know what does this mean in a report - lumbar spine curvature is lost - paraspinal spasm, &scoliosis with convexity to left is seen?

Malalignment: Normally when you look at the low back of a person from the side there is a small curve known as lordosis.  When this curve is reduced or straightened it can be from muscle spasm which tends to straighten out the normal curves in the spine.  When you look from the back, the spine is normally straight, but in scoliosis it is curved.  It may take an MRI to determine the cause of your condition.

what does it mean to have mild dextro scoliosis of the lumbar spine with mild degenerative changes l5-s1?

: If you are not having back problems these are not significant. Scoliosis is a twisting of the spine and a mild amount is common. L5-S1 is the lowest portion of the spine and compression of the nerves in that region is unlikely with only mild degeneration.

degree of scoliosis is 5 in lower thoracic & 7 in mid lumbar spine. should i get a brace/treatment? i'm 24yr/old woman.i've consistent back pain tho.

Most wouldn't: I don't even refer cases out with that minor level of deviation. Your doc is in a better position to sort out any back pain issues but many with scoliosis at higher degrees  have no pain at all.

xray - "straightened lumbar spine, likely secondary to muscle spasm. mid lumbar scoliosis." what can you suggest for her? she's been having back pains

Moist heat, NSAIDs : This x-ray report suggests that this young patient is having muscular lbp w/ secondary muscle spasms which can 'reverse' the normal lordosis of the lumbar spine and cause it to straighten... Esp.W/ non- standing x-rays. Heat, Ibuprofen , gentle massage, and avoidance of aggravating activities can be helpful the first week or so. If symptoms persist consider seeing an orthopedist. Good luck!

can i reverse this issue? 27 yo male. my mri report below. mild scoliosis of the lumbar spine. l4-5: there is a 2 mm in ap diameter broad-based posterior disc bulge. there is mild right lateral recess narrowing. is this curable?

:  The anatomic findings can not be changed by any exercise or medicine only by surgery- but if any symptoms- they can by PT.

: It means you have early signs of west &amp; tear in the spine, in addition to mild curvature that is consistent with scoliosis. These are not new findings (nonacute) and have likely been there a while. These findings are not uncommon in folks who have no pain, so they may have nothing to do with your pain. Please follow up with a clinician to discuss further evaluation &amp; management of your pain.

my chiro xray shows lateral pelvic tilt & (as a result) curve in lumbar spine. doc said the curvature in the spine is not scoliosis. how is it not?

Depends on details: The presence of a tilt on an X-ray does not necessarily mean scoliosis. There can be positional curves which show up on imaging that have to do with either posture or muscular tension. Scoliosis represents a curvature to the spine which reflects an abnormality of how the bones interact with each other. This difference can be subtle. A trained radiologist can tell the difference.

Pinched nerve: The answer depends on the meaning of the pinched nerve. I need further information to comment on this. A complete neurological exam is necessary to make sure there is no ruptured disc or other symptoms like pain radiating to legs. If it means simple low back due to muscle spasm, then simple stretches, ibuprofen, and moist heat may help. But i need further medical information regarding pinch nerve.

Depends if they are: Causing problems. A study of asymptomatic patients (no pain or other issues) showed that roughly 40% have bulging or mildly herniated discs and no issues. You may want to be more careful and work on core strengthening to help support those discs. Exercise, hydrate, and keep in shape and as long as you don't notice symptoms, you may just be part of that 40%!
