Virus: Typically symptoms gradually subside by a week or so. Resting helps. Avoid roughage in diet while eating soft solid bland foods and broths. Drink enough room temperature liquids like sports beverages,coke or ginger ale. Take kaopectate or Imodium as needed per instructions to control diarrhea.

Doesn't matter: Although virologists can distinguish these, clinically it doesn't matter which a person has. Both are highly contagious, diarrheal organisms that are typically nonlethal but can put vulnerable patients, esp the very young and very old, at risk. Both are treated supportively with hydration, and prevention of spread is key.

Several: Rotavirus and norovirus infections are generally limited to the GI tract.  Although influenza may also produce GI symptoms, the upper and occasionally lower respiratory tract symptoms, degree of fever, generalized muscle aches and degree of malaise are far more than one could reasonably expect from the first two viruses.

: There are distinct difference in presentation: Rotavirus infection begins with acute onset of fever and vomiting followed 24-48 hours later by watery diarrhea whereas norovirus infection presents as abrupt onset of vomiting accompanied by diarrhea, abdominal cramp, and nausea.  The symptoms of rotavirus infection are not specific enough to distinguish from other viral gastroenteritis.

: I assume you meant Lactoferrin stool test not Ferrolactin.
The presence of Lactoferrin only means there is bowel inflammation regardless of the causative agent, bacteria or virus.

No: These are different viruses with different genetic makeup. The immunity gained from rotovirus is protective for furtur rotovirus exposure, not other GI viruses.

Yes: As an adult, you have more than likely been infected with the virus as a child and have some degree of immunity. Should you contract the infection, your symptoms will be less severe than a child contracting the infection for the first time.

Rota: make sure to keep him hydrated with water and pedialyte. No juice for 24 hour. Monitor how many urine diapers he is having.

Isolation/hygiene: There is no cure for rotavirus, so treatment is more for making your child feel better and to prevent any complications from dehydration. If your child is hospitalized, they will be isolated from other children to prevent an outbreak in the hopital.It's the leading cause of severe diarrhea. In some infants and children, diarrhea may be so severe that the dehydration requires IV hydration.

Varies: You can get many different stool colors with Rotavirus.  One more common color, in my experience, has been a distinct "technicolor green".  As it progresses you can see clear watery stools, yellow stools, and finally brown.  With the advent of the vaccine we hardly ever see Rotavirus these days.
