A type of root canal: Root canals are usually done by making a hole in the top of the tooth - giving the dentist access to the blood vessels and nerves of the tooth.-to clean out the infected tissue inside the tooth. Removing that tissue will control the infection. Sometimes this doesn't remove all the infected material, and the dentist needs to go in to the tooth from underneath the gum - apical surgery.

how does root end surgery differ from a root canal? my dentist says i have a blockage at the tip or my root, and will need to have root end surgery to shave off a small section of root and seal it. isn't that what a root canal is?

Root : Root end surgery is known as an apicoectomy.  When a tradition root canal therapy can not be completed due to a blockage, the alternative way to reach the area is directly thru bone after the gums are lifted up.  Today the most advanced technique involves using a microscope and special ultrasonic tools and materials.  Special 3d xrays are availabe as well to aid the endodontic surgeon with your specifc anatomy  this type of procedure should be done by an endodontist , one that is trained in microscopic surgery.  Not all endodontists are.  With the new and improved technology , an apicoectomy has become a very standard procedure for those who do it often.  No pain and taking the same time appointment as a root canal.  There most frequent complication is swelling which can be mostly minimized or not at all by placing ice on the area of surgery for the first 24 hrs.  With today's available technology, apicoectomies are quick, painless and an additional way for you to save your tooth.   Years ago, the tooth would have most likely been extracted when now you can often keep that tooth for the rest of your life.

Surgery: Sounds like she is still under the influence of anesthesia and physical stress of just having surgery if it just finished. Usually resolves in a couple of days.

Probably not: Once you've stopped growing (at about 18 y/o) your spine has stopped growing as well.

is height lengthening surgery safe? i am 18 and i wanna be taller. i stopped growing at 14 and i think it's a problem. what should i do?

Is it worth it?: You did not mention how tall you are. From personal experience, height does not define a person. What you make of your life in the service of others is what counts most. I'm only 5'4 and I've been able to accomplish many things and help many people and have lived a full life. Have I felt self-conscious at times? Yes. Do I let it stop me from reaching the top of my profession? No.

: Hi, the Radiologist’s interpretation is used to communicate the results in a terminology that the referring doc understands. The bottomline is: right C6 foraminal narrowing according to your radiologist. Now importantly that must be correlated w/ ur clinical symptoms. In regards to treatment, surgery is just 1 of many good options. Usu anti inflammatories, PT, and spinal injections before surgery

You'll get numb: You should not feel much of anything, as you will be anesthetized for the treatment. Sometimes, badly infected nerves are slow to get numb, and could have tough time getting numb completely. So please ask your dentist how you can get numb. Most patients are surprised how painless the procedure was, once it is done.

Root Canal: After i send my patients to a endodontist for their root canal they come back and say how easy it was and they are happy it really did not hurt. With the anesthetic properly administered you won't feel a thing. You can do it !

can you please list the risks associated with having root canal surgery?

Infection is worse: There are always risks ie. Perforation of canals, overfill, fractured roots etc.  However, not having a necessary root canal- will always present more problems with pain and infection.  Ultimately, if a tooth is deemed non-restorable, it can be safely removed to avoid further problems. Whereas an untreated, infected tooth can pose very dangerous health risks!

what does displacement of the meniscal root mean? does that mean a tear at the root if so how is that fixed with surgery? please help

Loss of hoop stress: The meniscus has lost it's normal stability. Could be from degeneration or a peripheral tear. It can be sutured and tightened.
