: Although Rogaine can indeed grow hair on many body parts, esp scalp, if you're attempting to grow a sig full beard, I'm not sure whether this type of treatment will provide you with that much satisfaction.  As far as side effects, perhaps a bit of itching and skin dryness might occur. Make certain that you monitor your blood pressure as well.

: At age 17, just wait a year or two. Some young men's secondary sexual characteristics, like facial hair growth, take longer to be apparent. Do not use Rogaine without your personal physician's advice. Discuss with her or him if you remain concerned.

It May: Rogaine (minoxidil) is approved for application on the scalp to grow hair as an over the counter product.  Trying it in other areas may work, but more likely you would benefit from a medical evaluation and other therapies (some people do hair transplant to missing beard hair areas!).

hello! ive recently been seeing people use minoxidil/ rogaine on their face for beard growth. i was wondering from a health stand point, is it safe? are their any large health risks associated with it? might there be any better products to use?

:  Most doctors feel it might be  be of some benefit  , but advise better and safer  products including castor oil , and supplements like biotin and folate . People with sensitive skin might react to minoxidil so a patch test is recommended. 
It is generally not so effective for beard growth as the hair growth is more dependent on DHT ,a stronger form of testosterone.

Hard to say: We know it works well for the scalp, but for other areas its not proven.  However, rogaine (minoxidil) is no longer expensive, and if you have thin areas in your beard, or areas where your beard has lost hair, i would definitely try rogaine (minoxidil), twice daily for 6 months.

: The main ingredient of rogaine solution is minoxidil which has a strong hypotensive effect but oral minoxidil causes hirsutism (increased hair growth all over the body) so topical minoxidil, rogaine, was made. I think this lotion is approved for use in scalp for stimulating hair growth then it can be used on the skin. I have not read any report about the systemic side effect of topical minoxidil.

Unknown: As far as i know, the effects of rogaine (minoxidil) on facial hair have not been studied. However, rogaine (minoxidil) works in part by increasing blood flow to the hair follicle and could potentially help hair grow in any location. You must be very careful around the mouth, eyes and mucous membranes of the nose. Rogaine (minoxidil) is not formulated for use on the face.

You can try: Hormone is testosterone. If you're a woman who wants to adopt the male body / role, there are programs in most developed nations that can help you. If you're a man who's genetically programmed to have a very thin beard despite normal testosterone (erections, body odor), you can try rogaine (minoxidil) for your face / chest (anecdotes of success), or simply note many women prefer a thin-bearded, smooth man.

Maybe: consult a dermatologist for evaluation to rule out fungal infection v. spot alopecia.
