2 reasons: Fungal spores, which cause the ringworm infection, do not wash out in the laundry and are not killed by the heat of the drier.  They live for 30 days.  If you don't treat your fungus infection for at least 30 days (despite it clearing up in only a few days with treatment), you're bound to re-infection.

We have found there is a genetic predisposition to some fungi, so some ppl just keep getting it.

Antifungal med: Ringworm is a skin infection secondary to fungus. Medications such as Miconazole applied to the area as directed on the package should be successful. These medications, creams and lotions, are usually in the "foot" section of a pharmacy or grocery store. You should be certain of what you are treating and if it does not improve with treatment see your pcp.

Home remedy: One home remedy for treating ringworm is to rub the affected area  of skin with a slice of lime dipped in salt (over the pulpy portion).  Rub in &amp; follow by rinsing. I can not speak to effectiveness of this approach.

No, but....: Calamine will not cure ringworm - period.  However, with everything that you have tried, I would highly suspect the diagnosis is either wrong or you did not use the previous treatments long enough, as skin fungal infections can take months to clear. If you have not seen dermatologist and had scrapings and confirmation of the diagnosis, that's where you need to start. Calamine helps with itch only.

No: True ringworm is caused by a fungal infection.  Bactroban (mupirocin) is a topical antibiotic that works well for bacterial infections, but is not helpful for fungal infections.  You can try over the counter Miconazole products, but may need to see your dermatologist for a prescription anti fungal.

Athletes foot creams: Ringworm, despite its name, is not a worm but a fungal infection. Treatment with an anti-fungal cream, such as Lamisil (terbinafine) or other athletes foot medication can be effective in treating ringworm. I recommend that patients use these creams "twice as long." in other words, use it until symptoms are gone, then continue using it for the same length of time it took to resolve. See your doctor if no better.

Contagious: Ringworm is a fungal infection and yes, it can be contagious with contact. See the doctor to see if it is really ringworm and have it treated either with external medicine but sometimes needing oral medicines. Take precautions.

Yes, if on the skin: Miconazole cream is an anti-fungal medication.  It will work well on "ringworm" -a fungal infection of the skin. If the fungal infection is on the scalp, it will require anti-fungal pills.
