Evaluation: If you are in early pregnancy with new onset of pain then evaluation by your Obgyn is needed. A sonogram can be done to make sure there is a normal pregnancy seen located inside of the uterus.

Many body parts...: The left abdomen has muscles of the abdominal wall (and the nerves coming out of the spinal cord, going to the muscles), the stomach, spleen, parts of the large intestine (colon) and small intestine, the ureter from the left kidney to the bladder, etc...  Pain can come from a variety of problems, so anything other than mild brief pain should be checked by a doctor.

A muscle pull: Do you exercise ? Construction? Any other active activities that involve  bending or lifting? See your doc and get an evaluation. As you could need meds and or physical therapy

Many things: The list of causes is huge with just that symptom and includes appendicitis, ovarian or pregnancy issue, simple gastroenteritis, or even muscular pain.  It is important to know if there are any associated symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, what makes pain worse/better, or irregular periods.

Lifting or strain: AS a young woman the most common cause of problems is overuse. This could be in form of exercise or of work etc. The historical nature of your parent with back pain is not usually related.  Do not sleep on your abdomen and if this persist see your doc.

Hard to know: So many things can cause low back pain. The most common is just the usual achy muscles. Misshapen fingernails can be due to a systemic illness, but I would expect that to affect both hands. Sounds like you need to see a physician for a complete interview and physical exam to figure out what's going on. Good luck.
