Not sure: But if can capture one of them in a plastic zip-loc bag get thee to an entomologist and he will be able to identify it fairly quickly. Once you know that treatment should be straight forward.

Head lice: If you use rid or another over the counter treament, you only use it once, rinse and comb out hair. Some repeat in a week. I have not seen it change the color of peoples hair, but call you colorist.

No: The manufacturer recommends to leave it on the patient's hair for 10 minutes. Most importantly, this is an insecticide that paralyze the lice, thus what you want is to grab the fine comb and do an extensive combing as indicated in the instructions, so the patient does not shed the lice all over.
Keep in mind that there is resistance to this type of drugs, thus follow up with pcp is important.

Kerosene: When I was a child, my mom used kerosene on my head to kill (suffocate) the lice. I survived and it worked. Whether you should use it or not, I don't know. Definitely, not recommended in the US, but in Europe it's used as a home remedy.

One lice ; nits are: Gone - it lasts - unless you get re-infected. Reatment of lice 
requires accurate identification of nits ; / or lice. A pediculicide is usually used- otc like nix (permethrin) or rid or prescription meds like lindane or malathion. Work carefully through hair ; remove individual nits. Purchase a special lice nit comb to aid you. Check for nits ; remove as seen over the next 7 to 10 days. If there are nits after.

Lice therapy: Pyrethrins are naturally occurring pyrethroid extracts from the chrysanthemum flower. Pyrethrins are safe and effective when used as directed. Pyrethrins can only kill live lice, not unhatched eggs (nits). A second treatment is recommended on day 9 to kill any newly hatched lice before they can produce new eggs. Pyrethrins generally should not be used by persons who are allergic to chrysanthemums.
