It can be: In my clinic , we see a number of patients with rheumatoid arthritis but their testing for rheumatoid disease is within normal limits.They still lhave the same potential for inflammation and other complications of rheumatoid arthritis and we call the disease, seronegative rheumatoid arthritis. I believe in your question, the 2 illnesses are the same joint process or disease.

Probably: Methotrexate and Ibuprofen have been around to treat RA for a long time. With Methotrexate i monitor patients every 2-3 months with blood counts and liver function tests. Ibuprofen is an nsaid. Kidney function and blood pressure need to be monitored every 4-6 months. If she has underlying liver or kidney disease she needs more frequent monitoring as then the risk of side effects increase.

Nobody Knows: We are not sure what gets the ball rolling, but autoimmune disease in general is a case of "misprogramming" in which the immune system begins to incorrectly recognize the body's own tissues (joints in the case of ra) as though they were foreign.  It then attacks them as it would any invading substance.  Smoking definitely raises the risk of ra, though we don't know why!

Unrelated: If you have been taking Aleve (naproxen) regularly for a long time, you may need to be weaned off of it to get rid of your headaches. This is called conversion headaches. If the problem does no go away, consult a neurologist.

Mild suppression: In rheumatoid arthritis, the immune system acts against one's tissues. So, part of the immune system is too active, but in a detrimental way. On the other hand, patients with RA may be more likely to develop infections. Even more so, if they receive medications that suppress the overactive immune system.

Yes: Rheumatoid arthritis (and any chronic inflammatory state) accelerates formation of atherosclerotic plaques in the blood vessels, and hence is a risk factor for causing heart attacks. Moreover, chronic steroid use (if used to treat ra) may cause metabolic changes that predispose for heart attacks as well.

For example if you had tha test done for joint pain it could suggest RA but is not diagnostic of it. If the test was done on a routine physical it may have little value. If the test was done for rheumatic complaints it could mean multiple issues. Talk with doc.
