Be checked: Well, for one thing you could be checked to see if you have RA.  If you do, there are medications that can help.  I am also a firm believer in the antiinflammatory properties associated with a whole food type diet.  Consider giving it a try and if it works you can recommend it to your family members.

any reason my upper arms ache so much to keep me up at night.  no injury or strenuous exercise during the day either.  i do have rheumatoid arthritis.

Yes!: Immobility increases pain in inflammatory arthritis.  Shoulders are particuarly problematic since we frequently sleep on them-pain wakes us.  Make sure you take a long acting NSAID at supper, so you have adequate pain relief at night. Ask your doctor if mechanical damage to your shoulders is also present.

i am 4weeks post birth, i suffer with weakness and stiff joints in my hands at night, it takes me time to open my hands fully, could this be carpal tunnel syndrome or rheumatoid arthritis?

Differential: If the symptoms involve solely hands and wrists, most likely persistent carpal tunnel syndrome.  If more widespread joint involvement, more likely systemic arthritis.  Should and could sort this out with simple blood tests and maybe EMG study.  Regardless of final conclusion, treatment can reverse most if not all of your symptoms.

Rheumatology: You need a rheumatologist to finalize work up and have a thorough evaluation. Keep log of symptoms with duration, location, etc as that might help significantly in formulating a diagnosis. It is always wise to establish with a PCP. Sometimes a diagnosis is not clearly delineated in a specific field and you will have a second chance through your PCP.

Bad: Ra is an inflammotry disorder, characterized by high levels of CRP in the body.  CRP does not cause the damge, but is the best surrogate marker for inflammation in the body, particularly the blood stream.  Inflammation hurts the ling of blood vessels and increases the tendency to deposit cholesterol plaques.  It raises clotting factors, such as fibrinogen which makes the blood more liely to clot!

Symptoms may.: Acute polyarthritis can rarely develop overnight and is one presentation of RA , more common in elderly patients.  The immune, genetic and enviromental mechanisms which are responsible for RA  do not occur overnight, and have been in place for an a significant period of time before the onset of rheumatoid arthritis.
