Yes: Yes it will, additionally a molar pregnancy will.  You also will remain positive for several weeks until your hormones revert back to normal.  Another possibility is a new pregnancy.

Possible: I am not an Obstetrician, but I have heard of retained products of conception (retained POC) after elective abortion. It is usually a good idea to evacuate retained POC by D&amp;C, as the material can only be a source for infection or other problems. Retained POCs is not common, but not uncommon either - doctors do the best they can. The oldest POC foun, according to Ripley's BION, is more than 60 yrs

D&amp;C: If you have retained products of conception (tissue of the placenta or fetus) it needs to be removed. It should not affect future pregnancies.  Follow up with your OB/GYN ASAP.

Post termination: A small about of tissue and blood is expected after a termination. If the bleeding, cramping or amount of "tissue" passing vaginally increases you should get help and perhaps a pelvic ultrasound. Retained tissue may get infected and cause irregular uterine bleeding.

"House"cleaning time: Whenever a medical abortion is incomplete as is your case, there is a risk that the retained products of conception will get infected. Most often, a D &amp; C (Dilation &amp; Curettage( not "dusting &amp; cleaning" ), is done to remove the material to prevent infection which can be serious. Ask you Abortion MD what choice is needed.

External: no harm, will not cause problems. No penetration, as the relatively open cervix, may allow infection.
