Residual volume: of the lungs  can be measured with a Lung Volume test.
It is part of the Pulmonary Function Test or PFT.
It can be elevated in emphysema  and reduced in pneumonia, as examples.

See below: By definition, residual volume is residual, or left behind in your lungs. This is needed to keep your lung tissue from closing shut due to the surface tension of the fluid (surfactant) in your lungs which allows gas exchange. It's similar to a wet, soapy glass or cup in the sink. It sometimes sticks to the sink and you need a little more force to break the surface tension of the water.

Possible: Prostatitis is usually accompanied by significant discomfort, burning with urination and urinary frequency.  If you do have a significant post void residual, a further evaluation, including urodynamics, may help.

Expected: Residual volume is the volume left in your lungs after you exhale completely.  In general, restrictive lung disease (rld) decreases your lung volumes, including total lung capacity and residual volume.  A simplified comparison can be to stretching a very tight rubber band - same as not being able to inhale and stretch your lungs to normal capacity.  Hope this helps!

did a urine ultrasound the results were, significant post void residual volume of 278.1. 35 yrs, no other symptoms but tons of anxiety and hypochondria.. nervous it could be sinister.. thanks? was also told the bladder was distended out of 800ml?

: That is a significant residual postvoiding residual and a huge amount of urinary retention at your age and raises suspicion of bladder outlet obstruction or a neurogenic bladder problem. Your urologist will have to advise you about causes, treatment and, if advisable, referral to a neurologist.

i am 38 years old , have high bladder neck, using tamsulin, baclofen for last 2 years and mirabegron for 15 days.  dont want to go for bni , worrying abt post residual volume i.e. 158ml, sometimes leakage occur or movement of drop in urethra, advice?

: You have a choice. Either stay on the the medicine and be checked frequently for residual urine or have the procedure which, if the diagnosis is right has a very high chance of cure and of being off any medicine. Some people have retrograde ejaculation after that.. which you probably have due to tamsulosin. Think about these pros and cons and decide. Hope you do well

Unclear ...: What does UTS &amp; B/L stand for? Please clarify them so I or more doc can answer your Q in a clearer fashion. But if residual urine was checked right after you emptied a not severely distended bladder, 68 cc suggests slight bladder weakness to empty, for which you need to be followed closely with possible Rx to ensure no worsening in bladder function over time. Urology : You need to see urology asap. Either there is bladder outlet obstruction uncommon in women or a atonic bladder.get care soon.
