Unlikely: Not to my knowledge, we all have some residual thymus tissue, it causes a problem in neuromuscular disorders but not in GI problems.

Accepted Answer

Not if its small: Thymus persist to normal involuted small tissue till about age 40, and not knowing your age, it could be entirely Normal. Large symptomatic thymus is a concern though because they could form thymoma or hyperplasia.

Biopsy: Inflammatory bowel disease (ibd)consists of  two forms of intestinal inflammation: ulcerative colitis and crohn's disease. Besides abnormalities of immunoglobulins production  t lymphocytes play an important role in pathogenesis of ibd and t cell maturation in thymus associated with ibd.Thymoma and myasthenia gravis have been reported as possible association. Not normal to have mediastinal mass.

Thymus: A residual thymus in an adult is an incidental finding and is of no consequence

Yes: A 3.3 cm. nodule needs close follow-up although it may well turn out to be benign.   You need to consult a pulmonologist re. the cause of your chronic cough and conditions such as asthma and Tb need be ruled out.

Residual thymus: in a relatively young person is an incidental finding usually of no significance.  The thymus normally involutes as we age.  It is not related to your rib symptoms.

: While identification of a thymus shadow on x-ray is most common in young children it is occasionally seen in adults. By itself the finding is a curiosity rather than a worrisome sign. The doc who obtained the x-ray &amp; knows the facts of the case needs to be the one to explain its importance in the case at hand.

Immune system: Thymus produces white blood cells, called lymphocytes, that travel to lymph nodes  throughout the body. There they help the immune system protect the body from infections.Thymus is gland in superior anterior mediastinum helping with immunity in childhood and usually involutes after puberty.

Residual thymus: The thymus gland, located within the anterior mediastinum of the chest, normally involutes, or shrinks, with age.  By the age of 50, only about 15% of people have any thymic tissue visible on CT.  So at your age, this is likely a normal finding.

Probably normal: Thymus gradually becomes replaced by fat and involutes throughout maturation. The gland is atrophic or diminihed. Thymus is biggest at puberty and then regresses. Thymolipoma is very rare benign anterior mediastinal tumor. Most patients are asymptomatic but  may present with symptoms attributable to its huge size or less frequently associated autoimmune myasthenia gravis, your situation is normal.
