what's the alternative to ercp procedure to remove bile stone?

Diagnose vs. therapy: Mrcp (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography) or eus (endoscopic ultrasound) are sensitive alternatives to finding biliary stones. However, when it comes to removing stones in the bile ducts, a procedure is needed: ERCP (as you already know), percutaneous techniques via interventional radiology, or surgical duct exploration & stone extraction. When choosing, consider your age & comorbidities.

: No. Liver can not be visualized during ERCP.

Gallbladder: The stone removed from the bile duct came from your gallbladder. If you don't get your gallbladder removed you will be at risk of having the same problem again.

: If the bile duct wasn't narrow to begin with and the ERCP was smooth and nontraumatic, in my opinion, you're not at risk for stricture.

i've been told by doctor that i can return home the same day after my ercp (to remove a stone from bile duct) provided there are no complications. my gb has been already removed. is it possible to get ercp and return home the same day?

: It is possible.  Disucss with your Drs over there as they have the experience in folks like you  where you live.

Yes: A small minority of people can continue to form stones in the bile ducts despite having the gallbladder removed. Unfortunately, biliary problems can also result as a complication from the surgery to remove the gallbladder.

Test for high LFT's: There are 2 kinds of liver enzyme abnormalities--that signal disease of the liver cells or of the bile ducts.  Abnormal liver tests may reflect fatty liver, too much alcohol, toxic exposure, occupational exposures, lot's of viral infections, metabolic problems, familial liver diseases, as well as problems with gallbladder, bile ducts, and pancreas.  Start with blood tests to identify possiblities.

what is bile gastritis & how is it treated? i had my gallbladder removed years ago.

Accepted Answer

Bile irritation : Since u don't have gallbladder, there is bile flowing through ur system  all the time. Some will back up into stomach and cause irritation.  Treatment is medication (carafate, cholestyramine, welchol, Reglan (metoclopramide) etc).
