Sure: this involves putting an eye drop in that paralyzes the ciliary muscle (the muscle in the eye that allows you to change focus).  There are many reasons to do this and particularly in children in order to get the most accurate refraction.  We usually don't do this in adults although sometimes it is necessary.

Glasses prescription: Refraction is the determination of a glasses prescription. Usually a phoropter is used, which the patient looks through at an illuminated screen.  The examiner tries different lenses to determine the combination that gives the sharpest vision for each eye. Refraction can also be done using an autorefractor, but this is typically used as a starting point to be refined with the manual refraction.

Age related: Presbyopia is tested for after age 40 or so.  It is due to the inevitable hardening of the lens which becomes visually evident between ages 40-55 when the lens no longer is flexible.  It is tested in that age group by near vision apparatus in your ophthalmologists' office however there are formulas which can be used which are reliable for power and commonly applied without testing after refraction.

Minimal residual: A very good outcome indeed. A residual 0.25 spherical diopter correction following LASIK is a minimal correction and is not necessary to have further correction by lasik.
