Yes: Having a rectum full of stool just sitting at the anal opening adds to the smell of gas. 
It is not healthy to keep a rectum full of stool. It is an old wives tale that taking laxaties casues a lazy bowel. It is most healthy to move the bowels once a day with a soft, easy to pass bm. If it takes a "kick in the butt" or a "laxative" , then so be it.

: Anxiety can certainly affect gastrointestinal tract function but classically symptoms are indigestion,irritable bowel pattern including diarrhea or constipation. CRC can cause change in bowel pattern, abdominal cramps or pain, rectal discomfort as well as red blood in bowel movements.

The character of the odor is influenced by your diet and the variety of gasses produced by separate bacteria.The germs live off what is not absorbed during digestion.

Change diet: The odor is likely from your diet.  Stay away from foods like beans, which when digested form gasses which are passes via rectum.  This will likely help.

Flatulence: Flatulence odor may just be due to the normal bacteria in your colon.  Certain foods can worsen the smell.  Treat your constipation with 6-8 glasses of water daily, add fiber to your diet like whole grains, fruits, oats.  White rice and bananas can cause constipation, so avoid them.You can try over the counter metamucil to add to water or orange juice.

Multiple: You could try using probiotics daily, which can help restore the normal gut bacteria to its appropriate balance. Also, there are products containing simethicone that help to break down the gas in the gut (bean-o, gas-x).

Not necessary: Bad odor that's h2s. High fiber can cause it. First step is tp cut down on fiber. Also be more active physically.

Constipation can also give one the sensation of needing to have a bm, but then not be able to pass any stool.
