Yes. Take to ER now.: DXM OD can be life-threatening. Signs absolutely do include red skin, sweating, heart racing, as well as increased blood pressure, possible nausea/vomiting, lethargy/hyperactivity, slurred speech, altered mental status, even hallucinations &amp; seizures. This drug is abused recreationally now. Your friend needs definitive medical care/observation immediately.

Red color may be: related to dyes in cough syrup. Mucus is a lubricant in our GI tract – so a small amounts needn't be a concern. However if there are large amounts of mucus especially if associated with blood  or abdominal pain– that warrants evaluation.

No: Neither the tea or Robitussin (guaifenesin) have been shown to help fertility. 10 years of birth control pills should not affect your chances of conceiving now, but if you had irregular cycles before and after the pills get checked out to find out why. With regular periods most 29 year olds get prego in the first year of trying to conceive. See a fertility specialist (rei) for help sooner if you're worried.

Yes: Some red dyes in candy and syrups can turn stool reddish.  Not uncommon cause for panicky phone calls to the dr.  Just make sure the redness clears when medicine is stopped.

Not a good idea: There are several versions of nyquil and most if not all of them contain cough medicine.  Taking another cough syrup would probably give you too much dextromethorophan.

Yes but caution!: By cough syrup, I am assuming you are referring to prescription cough syrup.  Take as directed and as little as you can.  If you are talking about otc meds, be cautious and use strictly as directed by age and weight.  Consult with your pcp or pharmacist if questions.  Cough is good if it doesn't interfere significantly with rest or induce vomiting.  Be careful!

Cough: is necessary attempt by the body to clear undesirable irritants. I do rarely recommend cough suppressants. I recommend expectorates. Many are available over the counter in any pharmacy in the US
