Probably a cyst: These can get infected and need treated with antibiotics. They can grow and get larger. They may need to be surgically removed. Your doctor can evaluate and treat.

Dermatographic: This may or may not be a chronic situation.  Try taking antihistamine to see if it helps.  Sometimes dry skin can also cause this type of reaction and thus applying a moisturizer &lt;3 minutes after bathing may help.  If problem persists, see derm or allergist.

on my forearms, back of neck and armpits the skin hurts when i wash it. i have tried many lotions and non work. no redness. dehydrated skin?

Accepted Answer

No hot baths: Wash in lukewarm water with hypoallergenic soaps, or colloidal oatmeal.  Do not thoroughly dry skin but apply lotions without dye, withou tperfume to moist skin.

7 y.o has lymph nodes to back of neck, enlarged since age 2. doesn't hurt, not red, moves under skin. child is thin but no wt. loss. need work up?

Needs follow up.: Cervical lymph nodes (in the neck) are common in children.  They can persist for very long periods of time.  Most important is that your pediatrician knows about them and re-examines them periodically (remind him or her from time to time).  They can be removed surgically or biopsied but this is not usually necessary.

Several causes: Little itchy bumps on the nape, several forms of dermatitis (skin inflammation), folliculitis (inflammation ofthe hair follicles) , ? Psoriasis ( a scaly skin condition), or seborrhea (part of it is dandruff) u may want 2 c ur 1ry md or a referral to a dermatologist 2 sort it out see less.

Skin bumps: Skin bumps may include pimples, sebaceous cysts, and other scarier things including blowflies.  Things to discuss with your doctor include how long it's been there, any fever, pain, oozing.  Good luck.

Check with your doc: Bright red may indicate infection. This may need an antibiotic or excision, although unlikely. Check with your doc to avoid complications. This may be infected folliculitis or something else. There is no need to wait. Good luck.

Umm, hard to say.: Skin rashes are most difficult to diagnose without actually examining them. Can you feel the rash? Is it crusted? How old is your dtr? Since the rash is itching & now spreading, perhaps it would be wise to have your pediatrician or dermatologist examine this in person. Then specific treatment and preventive measures could be discussed with more accuracy. Just proper itch relief can be a blessing!
