Not necessarily.: There are several other causes of recurrent throat pain that will not go away with tonsil removal. Nasal allergies, sinus infections, frequent colds, mouth-breathing, and smoking are just a few of the possible causes not related to tonsils. It may be time to seek medical attention.

Carrier vs resistent: Many times a recurrent symptomatic strep can be resolved by a 2 step treatment, a penicillin or cephalosporin followed on the last 4 days by using rifampin. If this works, fine. If you are testing + for strep but not sick with it, you could be a carrier ; the 2 step may help but not stop returning to carrier status.5 documented strep/yr will get the attention of many ent's ; a tonsil removal.

i have had a recurring sore throat for the past 6-8 months. my lymph nodes do not get tender or swollen but i feel less energetic. is it pharingytis?

GERD: It is not usual to have a persistent sore throat for 6-8months that is of infectious etiology.  A common cause of recurrent sore throats in adults is reflux of acid from the stomach, now called LPR (laryngo-pharyngo- reflux.  This common problem is characterized by recurrent sore throats, cough, and voice changes.  See an ENT or GI doctor.

Tonsilliths: �The best treatment for tonsil stones (tonsillitis) if they are symptomatic is to have the tonsils surgically removed.  There is no good medical therapy for this problem.

ENT evaluation: Your symptoms need to be assessed by an ENT specialist to start with, several structures in the neck need to be evaluated, you might nred imaging studies as well, ask your doctor for referral or check for yourself, goodluck

See a doctor: Your symptoms are too vague to produce an accurate diagnosis without an exam and perhaps some lab tests.  This could be one of several different types of infection.

Rest and Sleep well: Studies have shown that the 2 most common reasons for adults to get recurrent upper respiratory tract illnesses are: 1- improper sleep. 2- touching our face a lot! 
stress can also be a definite culprit.
There are other pathologies that could be the reason for your recurrent illnesses so a trip to your primary care provider is also warranted at this stage.

Dr. can check throat: Throat pain can be from strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or some other cause such as allergies, irritants, gastric reflux, etc. Usually, one sees a doctor if a sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep). A couple days of throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) can lessen pain.
