my tsh level in my last blood test was 3.48 which means my thyroid level is low. i have never had a thyroid problem before but i am now in the early stages of pregnancy. what is the recommended daily dose of levothyroxine to correct my thyroid level?

Not low: A TSH level of 3.48 is normal. Your thyroid is functioning normally. Treating yourself for perceived thyroid disorder is not a good idea. You should consult your doctor.

Thyroid cancer: If you have been treated for thyroid cancer, the goal is to suppress TSH to prevent the TSH to stimulated cancer growth.  Your doctor is doing the right thing.  The risk of too much thyroid hormone is osteoporosis and tachycardia.  Talk to you doctor.  Depending on your symptoms, there may be treatment.  Perhaps a b-blocker.

Talk to your doctor: If you are having symptoms of hypothyroidism ( feeling cold, weight gain, fatigue, hair loss, constipation, dry skin, hair loss) you should be treated as your level is high.  However, if a patient feels okay treatment does not have to be started until the TSH is &gt;10.

: We would like to know the results of the rest of your thyroid panel. If they are higher than normal, then you have hyperthyroidism ( an  overactive thyroid). If they are normal, you have sub clinical hyperthyroidism, meaning that you have impending hyperthyroidism. I recommend consulting an endocrinologist to sort this out&amp; advise you about testing,treatment and followup.
