im 16, 57, and around 118 lbs. what are the chances my suddenly started, strenuous workouts are the cause of my late (possibly missed, its around three days late) period? please help, im anxious its for another reason?

Misse or late period: Very common at your age &amp; usually without cause. Can be cause by anxiety or possibly your new strenuous workouts. Lots of young women miss periods when they first leave home and go to school or start a new job. Don't worry.

Late period: Reasons for missed/late periods: low body weight, obesity, marked  weight ^ or v, over-exercise, endurance athletics, breast-feeding, ^ stress, illness, eating disorders (bulimia or anorexia), anovulatory cycle (no egg released), travel, hormone irregularities, drug use, meds (i.e., birth control) or medical problems (polycystic ovary syndrome or asherman’s syndrome). #1 reason is pregnancy.

It could: Although rare, all selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors can be  associated with hyperpro- lactinemia and can lead to amenorrhea or menstraul changes in some patients. You should let your doctor know to clarify.

POSSIBLE: It maybe due to the UTI and stress. You did not mention what sort of protection that you use. Take over the counter pregnancy check if you are still concerned.

Menstruation: The main reason for light periods is change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives, perimenopause ; implantation bleeding in early pregnancy which rarely occurs.

how do i know if a period is just late or is going to missed entirely? are there any pre-requisite symptoms in having a late period or a period that is going to get missed entirely?

: Some women who are usually very predictable can skip a cycle occasionally. The amount of delay is unpredictable and there are no real symptoms other than the delay &amp; negative pregnancy tests.  If it goes past two months with a negative pregnancy test many OBGYNs would offer meds to bring on a menses. By that point it would usually be quite heavy.

Later period: Would get blood/urine HCG. The second period  may have been implantation  in September.  If all negative consider sonogram. Follow with MD/urgent care.

Pregnancy: The first and last thing we always have to think about is pregnancy.  Try a home pregnancy test.  If its negative, repeatit in a week and call your doctor.

Sounds ok: A 2 day variation from month to month is perfectly normal and not a case for concern. If you have been having unprotected intercourse for more than 12 months without getting pregnant then an evaluation is warranted. Otherwise 90% of couples get pregnant within the 12months.
