about a week back i got a slight rash by my collarbone. it has been escalating since and my glands have swelled up in the area of my neck. first it seemed that im allergic to my necklace but now im just nervous it might be a spider bite.

Infection possible : If the area is red,tender,swollen or oozing, there may be an infection. Wash the area well, avoid contact with your necklaces,fragrances, or any products with fragrance. Apply a topical antibiotic three times daily, and please follow up.

Hard to say: From the short description, it is hard to say. But, the location and the presence of itching suggests a contact dermatitis--an immune reaction to something that is touching your skin. This can be due to the metals in necklaces, detergents or starch in your shirt collar, or a number of different things. See an allergist or a dermatologist for a better evaluation.

See doctor: Anytime one has problem using one's arm without any history of injury of trauma, it should be examined by a doctor  With the stiff neck, I am also concerned about meningitis. See your doctor ASAP.

Number of causes for: A rash:
1: allergy to some meds, foods or maybe to the detergents used for washing. Any one or more of these can cause the rash. Mostly they would be associated with itching etc and also the rash(es) would be more extensive.
2: could be heat rash, which is seen around the neck.

Suggest to see your pcp to get it DX and see if you need any therapy.

Have you worn any: new, especially unwashed, clothing? Have you switched from cotton clothing to wool? Any new foods, medications, change in your environment? It does sound like you are reacting to something. If you haven't already tried one of the non-sedating oral antihistamines, such as fexofenadine or loratidine, you may want to try one. If the symptoms still don't help, please discuss this with your doctor.

Necklace Sensitivity: Very commonly the area of the neck is irritated by clothing or jewelry.  In the case of costume jewelry, some individuals are allergic to a component of the metal such as nickel.  If the chain, pendant or a suspended ring contains the metal it will cause itching and then a possible rash if ongoing exposure.  Some types of fabric often do this as well with perspiration activating the reaction.

Absolutely: There are a number of muscles that run through the general area of the neck and clavicle.  For a number of reasons, these muscles can go into spasm.  One example is someone who has a pinched nerve in the neck that then can cause pain in the neck going down into the shoulder, often associated with spasm.  Thank you for the question.
