how do you stop qvar inhaler? can you stop immediately or do you gradually decrease it? i was supposed to continue until spring finished.

It depends: Decreasing your controller medication depends on whether you have well controlled asthma for three months or more.
If you take the asthma control test which can be found online, it will help your physician determine the next step. Step down therapy is a term often used when a patient can decrease their use of asthma medication.
There can be lung inflammation even when symptoms are absent.

That's okay: You may have developed airway sensitivity or reactive airway disease following the cold.  Using inhaled steroid for two months won't cause significant side effects.

Possibly: Headache is the most common adverse effect of QVAR (beclomethasone inhaled). It occurs in over 10% of patients, especially after initial use. I suggest you talk to the doctor who prescribed it, let him know of your symptoms, and maybe ask for an alternative management for your asthma, if the headache is intolerable.

Qvar: Qvar inhaler  contains a mild steroid  for treatment of asthma.  Because the medicine  can cause oral thrush and even  hoarseness, it is important to rinse your mouth or drink water after each use.

Accepted Answer

Not exactly: If your airways are very irritated from coughing the steroid will reduce the inflammation and may reduce the cough reflex you feel due to that irritation.  It won't directly improve the lung injury from the pneumonia and it may not work at all - but is worth trying if you are miserable.

Similar ingredients: The are several inhalers with similar medications, used for the same lung conditions that Advair is used for. For example, there is Symbicort, and there is Qvar plus salmeterol. One's doctor can help decide whether a change would be helpful or not. Patients should not change medications without talking to their prescribing doctors.

my 2 yr. old was given two types of inhalers. qvar is needed twice daily and he also has albuterol. should the albuterol be used daily too?

Inhaler: Qvar is a controller medication for asthma and is use twice a day however Albuterol is a rescue inhaler and is to be used. Only if your child starts to wheeze despite  using Qvar so the answer to your question is NO only use Albuterol on an as needed basis
