Lice, Head: The goal of tretament of head lice  is to eliminate lice and eggs. Treatment should be repeated in 7-10 days (the time needed for the eggs to hatch) because nits are less effectively killed than adults. Aavailable otc medications include nix, (permethrin) rid, a2000.

Vacuum floors, carpets, mattresses, upholstered furniture ; your vehicles.

Combined Rx: A common problem of many treatments is the ability of seed casings to hatch & re-establish the infestation.Products may not penetrate the eggs. I find most otc rx will work better if followed by a thorough washout of the scalp with some vinegar.Several days may be needed. It seems to dissolve the glue holding the eggs to the hair.Prescription rx may eventually be needed if this doesn't help.

Vinegar: 'sea lice' are stings from microscopic  jelly fish  babies. They can be both painful and itchy. Remove your swimsuit, shower. Afterwards rinse affected areas with dilluted vinegar (about 1 bottle per gallon of water) to deactivate the venom.  If still itchy you can use topical anti-itch creams and oral antihistamines. It takes several weeks for this to heal.  See your doctor if severe.

Smother them!: There are not other proven therapies to kill lice and their eggs. However, certain home remedies are practical and often used by pediatricians. The best is smothering them, by coating the hair in a heavy layer of vegetable oil that is left on x 48 hours - cover with a shower cap. Also, always change clothing, linen and everything else in contact with infected head. Good luck!

I wouldn't : Count on it. A pediculicide is usually used- otc like nix (permethrin) or rid or prescription meds like lindane or malathion.
