You could have: Burger's disease, especially if you smoke.  Severe cases can result in permanent deformity, so get to a doctor to help figure this one out.

: In the absence of injury these could be signs of an autoimmune disorder causing disturbance in circulation of oxygenated blood to your hand and finger.  I would consult a rheumatologist who may also want you to be evaluated by a vascular specialist.

Infection?: It's possible that the sand may have caused an abrasion leading to an infection especially if you did not wear gloves. I would strongly suggest that you see your primary care physician asap.

Don't suspect gout  : Doubt gout it would be unusual at your age and even Hippocrates noted that women don't usually get gout until after menopause. Your physician can evaluate you and have you see a rheumatologist. Arthritis in those joints at your age could suggest something like inflammatory arthritis related to psoriasis, but there are other possible causes also. A full evaluation will help answer your question

Natural Process: As injured skin heals, the body creates inflammation to do so which means fresh blood goes to the area and with it, many kinds of healing factors and cells.  One type is called melanocytes which carry our skin pigment melanin.  A healing occurs, these cells get deposited int he area and give it the coloration you see.  Over time, there will be some fading as the injury matures.

Skin color: This an indication of purpura (blood under the skin).  As a patient ages, the skin thins, and this can be a normal phenomenon, especially if the patient is on blood thinners, aspirin, nsaids, vitamin E , garlic, fish oil, etc.  However, this would not be normal in younger patients.
