i stepped on a nail and have a puncture wound..  tetanus is good and i cleaned it. any way to speed healing?  i am training for a physical event...

Have it evaluated.: Deep puncture wounds can be potentially dangerous as one may develop tetanus, or a number of other types of deep infections.   If the wound was deep enough they may lead to bone infections.  If you develop pain, redness, swelling or other signs of infection seek medical attention to get the proper care.

Dought it: Your tetanus shot recently should cover you unless you desire a "wound booster" the bush would be unlikely to carry tetanus bugs.

Depends on situation: If you have not had a booster within the last 10 yrs, you should consider one after any wound that might allow tetanus spores ( that are in the dust or dirt) a chance to get under your skin.Wounds involving garden tools, dirt, & dirty environments are the most worrisome. A simple jab in your skin from a pin or staple is not so worrisome.

Yes: Call your doctor and see if you are up to date on tetanus. If so, shot not needed. If not up to date then you should get the shot.

Unlikely to happen: The vaccine is good protection for simple wounds for up to 10 years. It will not protect you from the other germs in the wound so proper care of the wound is important.

Animal Injuries: Puncture wounds from cats are potentially dangerous due to the potential for bacterial infections.  In addition to tetanus, there are other wound infectious which can result, and antibiotic prophylaxis is often prescribed to prevent infections from developing after bite wounds.  Puncture wounds from cats should always be examined by a physician.

last 48 hours i've had increasedmuscle spasms all over my body/immense pain in my neck. cut myself with a kitchen knife puncture wound last week but haven't had tetanus shot in 12 years should i worry?

Yes: While the anecdotal time frame is to get a tetanus immunization every 10 years there is no accurate telling that your immunization is still effective. Your symptoms and the length of time since your injury could be the early symptoms of tetanus. I would advise you to see an infectious disease specialist or a neurologist asap.

No: Usually there is  a longer incubation period so go to hospital and follow their guidelines
