Called Dequarvaine: Also called first dorsa extensor tensynovitis
Usually seen with RA, Diabetes, gout, or hypothyoidism also occcionally from trauma.
Need to see your PCP and have proper blood test and then proper treatmant accordingly.

Lost function, pain: Tendons in your hand control movement of the fingers.
If you ruptured your tendon, you will generally lose function of the finger it controls or at least develop some weakness, possibly pain and swelling.

Muscle Spasm: It seems like he had a muscle spasm sometimes called a "charlie horse" where the muscle without warning suddenly forcibly contracts. Most of the time it is due to the muscle being worn down("tired") from activity. Increasing fluid intake and moist heat would usually help.

Does the finger move: A tendon tear typically means that you cannot move that finger.  If you can move the finger it is probably a muscle tear.  There are some exceptions to that rule, so  i would see a hand surgeon.

or flexion in one of the fingers. In some cases where there is 
a laceration, the specific injury is more obvious. In some cases
a tendon might be injured without a laceration making the diagnosis
and a precise orthopedic exam very important. Most tendon injuries
need to be treated shortly after the injury for the best result.

Examination tendon: Based upon pain, range of motion, active vs passive findings, history of injury, and if needed studies such as X-ray, ultrasound and even MRI are all tools that a provider can use to determine of there is a tendon tear, laceration or rupture. Which tendon?: It sounds like you need a minimum of a splint, but possiblly a cast or surgery (if conservative treatment fails or major structure is damaged). Ot or pt also may be necessary. I would recommend you consult an orthopedic hand surgeon. In the meanwhile, rest, ice, compression, and elevation are key.

Wrist: Wrist curls, wrist extension, pronation and supination against resistance will do the job. You should have an athletic trainer or physical therapist instruct you.
