the skin on my hands started to peel for no reason, no new products being used, it doesn't itch or hurt. no ointment or cream helps. i have ra but the dr mentioned the possibility of psoriatic arthritis. could it be this or should i visit a doctor?

Need to examine: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor, preferably a dermatologist.

can psoriatic arthritis have a positive rf factor? was diagnosed with seropositive ra. take methotrexate 1cc weekly and humira biweekly. have developed psoriasis on both elbows. blood work only showed rf +,elevated crp, high sed rate.could it be psa?

: There are false positive RF in significant amounts. Yours could be a false positive or you could have both psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis. PSA can elevate sed rate &amp; CRP. Are your fingernails pitted? If you're female, I favor RA&amp; psoriasis. If male, PSA. . However A rheumatologist is best to advise you.

is it possible to have psoriatic arthritis and test negative for arthritis?

Yes: Actually psoriatic arthritis does not have any specific blood testing or antibodies, different to rheumatoid arthritis where we usually have 2 antibodies that help with the diagnosis. The most important fact is to have psoriasis, a history of psoriasis or a 1st degree family member with psoriasis. Psoriatic arthritis is a clinical diagnosis and does not rely much on blood work.

Occam&#x27;s Razor: The simplest explanation is most the likely one. Usually Systemic Sclerosis and/or limited Scleroderma is not characterized by arthritis like you describe. The typical biomarker is  anti Scl-70 (anti-topoisomerase). Symptoms have to be put into a broader context and be characterized beyond elbow and forearm pain. This one you should see a rheumatologist about. Dermatology would be useful as well.

dxed w/ sle 3yrs (positive ana, anti-ds dna, anti-chromatin, anti-cardiolipin antibodies, rash, nasal/oral lesions, etc.). i also have mild psoriasis/uveitis. dr. suspect possible psoriatic arthritis. is it possible to have both psa and lupus?

Yes!: While lupus is not  uncommon, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis or quite common!  I have patients with both.

friend has psoriasis on methotrexate.  labs cbc, cmp, tsh, esr and ana are normal.  starting to get joint pain but not red or swollen.  what are chances to progress to psoriatic arthritis?  sees derm.

Accepted Answer

If the inflammatory: markers (ESR,CRP) are normal, it is less likely to be arthritis causing the joint pain. However, it is possible and may need evaluation by Rheumatologist.

what can i do to treat psoriatic arthritis?

See your doctor.: A rheumatology referral may be necessary, but a nsaid, with sulfasalazine and Methotrexate given once weekly are my first treatments.  The biologics work (enbrel, humira, (adalimumab) remicade) work, but are quite expensive, not generic, require prior authorization, and almost always require prior Methotrexate therapy. Leflunomide, azothioprine, and Cyclosporine are options, given by someone in rheumatology!

Yes: It is more typical for psoriatic arthritis to start when you are young. Usually, around 30, but you can get it at any age.

No: There is not good evidence that diet affects psoriatic arthritis.

Accepted Answer

None: Psoriatic arthritis typically does not cause nodules. Skin and lung and eye nodules typically occur with rheumatoid arthritis.
