Hard to say....: Neither one is actually "better". What matters is simply how you tolerate each one and which one works better for you. That's all.

Essentially yes: They both work. Lexapro may have less associated side effects but stronger serotonin effects (so more serotonin side effects can be seen with lexapro). Lexapro was developed to get rid of the bits of proxac/ Paxil (paroxetine) molecules which cause other organ side effects. Side effects are still similar even if lessened. For sure, Lexapro seems to have less interactions with other medications.

Not Necessarily: Some people respond to lexapro, (escitalopram) some to prozac. They are both equally effective for anxiety at high doses.

: Both medications are belong to the SSRI group and they are both used for GAD. Weight loss is much more common than weight gain with Fluoxetine.

do ssri like lexapro (escitalopram) or prozac cause chronic shortness of breath? i have dyapnea for 5 months all day and touching breastbone hurts is this anxiety?

No: The drugs don't cause shortness of breath, but if it hurts to breath (movement of your breastbone), that  WILL cause it. At your age (18), arthritis is unusual so my guess is there was some trauma whether or not you remember the specific instance. A chest x-ray will determine if your sternum or ribs are fractured which may help gauge how long the pain will be present.

Behavioral medicine: can include tools like self-hypnosis training and clinical hypnosis (www.asch.net), biofeedback, change in food plan and exercise w/doc's ok.  Peace and good health.

Information: I consider the Wellbutrin (bupropion) the one antidepressant with less decrease of sex drive

i have had severe anxiety/panic for years. i have taken prozac, zoloft, wellbutrin, lexapro, and now viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). nothing seems to work.  what should i do?

Try counseling : While some medications will not work there are meds that will but along with counseling as well.  Anxiety and depression are best treated with both behavior modification and medication.  Give it some thought and discuss with your provider.
