It depends..: It all depends on the stage of prostate cancer. If it is early cancer(stage 1 to 3) then healthy life styles(reduced fat diet, no animal products) may be useful in your recovery. If you have stage 4 cancer then your oncologist can guide you better as the regular treatment is much more important then any natural remedies.

will i need to stop taking my prostate medication before surgery for my cataracts? i'll need cataract surgery in the coming year. i take flomax (tamsulosin) for an enlarged prostate. does this or any other drug cause a problem with cataract treatment?

I : I agree---going off the medicine does not good.  Just let your doctor know that you are on it and he can take the necessary operative precaustions during the surgery.  Don't let this stop you from having the surgery that will improve your vision.

Seeds /y radioactive: Radioactive seed implant of prostate makes your father slightly radioactive for about 6 months when the amount of radioactivity has decreased significantly.  Children have young organs prone to injury from radiation.  
Other forms of radiation like external beam radiation, imrt, igrt, cyberknife, high-dose-rate brachy therapy do not make your father radioactive.  No risk to be around children.

Biochemical relapse: Most likely this is a case of biochemical relapse. However, metastatic disease should be ruled out ( ct scan, bone scan) . If there is no site of metastatic disease- then it is biochemical relapse. Then in that case, he should see a radiation oncologist for  local radiation to the prostatic area, in addition to hormonal therapy. Discuss further with oncology team.

Radiation for CAP: Prostate cancer (cap) responds to radiation therapy, though radiation is less effective against higher grade tumors.  Additionally, you harbor a significant risk for nodal spread of your cancer, even if it was detected by elevated psa alone.  Not knowing your age, health status, symptomatic state or clinical stage, it's hard to definitely recommend surgery, though your best chance is prostatectomy.
