Likely long-term: Androgen deprivation is a standard treatment for advanced or metastatic prostate cancer. Hot flashes are a common side effect , due to diminished testosterone levels.  Hot flashes are likely to occur for a prolonged interval, extending even beyond the time that the medication is stopped, typically coinciding with testosterone recovery. It depends..: It all depends on the stage of prostate cancer. If it is early cancer(stage 1 to 3) then healthy life styles(reduced fat diet, no animal products) may be useful in your recovery. If you have stage 4 cancer then your oncologist can guide you better as the regular treatment is much more important then any natural remedies.

Hopefully a few days: Lots going on here. Is he bleeding because of a biopsy of the prostate. Or is it since it since the catheter. Medicine to shrink the prostate can take six months. Having a stroke and being in bed certainly makes urinary retention worse. If the bleeding is from the catheter  or biopsy, saline flushes can stop I t within a few days. Good health.

Lower testosterone: Orchiectomy and lhrh agonist medications are performed to lower the production of testosterone (fuel that promotes prostate cancer growth).  Both will cause a man's testosterone to drop typically lower than 50 (normal >300).  Will slow prostate cancer growth but not "cure" it. Side-effects of castration include hot-flashes, osteoporosis, diabetes/cardiovascular risks, etc.  Discuss with urologist.

Flomax: Flomax simply relaxes the muscle at the outlet of the urinary bladder allowing better urine outflow. There is no anticancer property.

Lot depends on age: His age at diagnosis, general health, will to live, strength to fight this beast, receiving  compassionate care, having loving support system,    all are factors that help get to the answer. Even then, a knowledgable, experienced doc does would not try to give a specific answer. .If he is under 65, it is usually a more aggressive cancer (my father died at 55 with it); if over 75, may have yrs left.

hi, i am taking a new drug for prostate cancer called orgovyx which is a daily pill. this drug lowers testosterone to very low levels (mine is 10). my concern is does having low testosterone levels for an extended time effect my immune system?

: Per my knowledge, there is not significant correlation between testosterone level and immune system.
