PAT: You had paroxysmal atrial tachycardia which may be triggered by anxiety, stimulants, overactive thyroid, and in some women, the onset of menstruation.  Your coughing was like a valsalva maneuver which stimulates a nerve and slows the heart. This is not a disease and is seldom life-threatening. The episodes are usually more unpleasant than they are dangerous, and the prognosis is generally good.

On pills?: When you say unprotected do you mean you stopped your birth control or you just didn't use a condom? If you were still using your birth control correctly the risks of pregnancy are extremely small. You just increased your risk of STDs not all of which are treated with a z-pak. If you stopped your birth control, how much risk depends on where you were in your cycle. Hope this helps. Be safe.

Depends: Bed rest never been proven to decrease the risk of preterm delivery. Can increase the risk of complications.Progesterone may do some good.Z pack it s ok only if you have chlamidia or other infection.Otherwise it s useless. You need a proper diagnosys( incompetent cervix versus preterm labor) and treated accrodingly.

Yes: Of course you never want to take something when you are pregnant that is not really needed. Be sure you are taking it for a specific and documented bacterial infection, not for a cold or as some sort of preventative.

Accepted Answer

Choices: The first trimester is critical to avoid any high risk category drugs. Ultimately, it depends on the organism being treated. In certain areas of the country there is a high resistance to azithromycin, so in short, if we can treat you with a simple penicillin, it's definitely preferred.

No problem!: Azithromycin is safe for mother and fetus! z-pack is a good choice for bronchitis in pregnancy (500 mg the first day and 250 mg daily for another 4 days. Hope you get well soon!

Azithromycin is a...: Category b drug which means there are no controlled studies studying its use during pregnancy.  It does, however, appear to be safe but should be used only when the benefit outweighs the risk.

whatare the symptoms of systemic candiaditis?i got real sick post pregnancy after having early birth& zithromax/vanco and then omnicef (cefdinir) im not absorbing food. losing weight, white tongue& other stuff

See a PCP: Systemic candidiasis is not a common illness.  It usually occurs in patients with indwelling IV lines, immune deficiency states, or with IV drug use.  Your current condition sounds very disturbing and would strongly recommend you begin by seeing a good family practitioner or general internist and go from there.  Hope you were HIV tested during pregnancy.
