is it safe to get immunized more than once? i was already immunized when i was in the military, but don't have the records to show it, and need to have them to enter nursing school.

Doesn't hurt: Unless you had an allergic reaction to a vaccine or one of it's components it will not hurt you to get another. (beyond the usual discomfort of a shot)

i'm starting nursing school soon and need a stethoscope. what's a good brand?

Accepted Answer

Don't buy too cheap.: But don't  overpurchase either. Pick one that is comfortable on your ears.  Needs soft ear pieces and a flexible tube that does not cause your head to move when the tube moves. Most of the diaphragms are pretty standard and transmit sounds well.  Consider getting a color that no one else has or at least marking your scope in some obvious way since they disappear when left unattended.

could i have developed an allergy to latex from nursing school rotation?

Yes: Latex allergy tends to progress with time. Most hospitals have gone to latex-free gloves made of nitrile, but you can still get sensitized. Without being too graphic, to be truly sure if you are allergic to latex is simply if you have ever had intercourse using a latex condom. Please do not be insulted by this question, but it is a very valid way to find out.

Med school: Yes i'm pretty sure you can apply to med school with any major - even basket-weaving as long as requirements met and mcat taken. Good luck!

how long does it take to become a substance abuse nurse if you haven't started nursing school?

Depends: Nursing degrees span the educational spectrum. From two year LPN progams to 3 year rn training, to 4 year bsn (bachelors degree), 6 year master's degree programs (msn), to 8 year nurse practitioner programs. These are great fields and have abundant opportunities for success, advancement and being socially redeeming.  To do alcohol & drug treatment, you'll need another two years.

Nurse to doctor: Perhaps in the past, but these days med schools like a wide variety of backgrounds—biology, music, teaching, pharmacy, sports, etc—as long as the candidate has successfully completed required science & math courses. Having been a nurse gives you an edge in practical, clinical knowledge over your classmates in the first year or two.

Disulfiram: Sold under the name Antabuse this drug blocks an enzyme in the bodies metabolism &amp; produces very unpleasant feelings of nausea with even tiny amounts of alcohol.

Eliminate alternativ: Lack of focus can be triggered by some correctable issues that have nothing in common with ADD.Lack of restorative sleep, erratic nutrition, thyroid disease, other chronic illnesses , etc. If you work on the things that you can fix, and still have a problem, a thorough checkup is needed. It is easy to go online and identify with symptom lists for ADD, it is more appropriate to see a professional.
