The coexistence: of chronic conditions including chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation, etc., DOES complicate the treatment of joint problems. Local treatment vs. systemic non-steroidals or steroids/prednisone would be strongly preferred. I would think aspiration of the knee effusion followed by an injection of pain killer and local steroid (Depo-Medrol) might warrant serious consideration. Good wishes:)

No.: Corticosteroids are catabolic drugs, which means they enhance tissue breakdown.  Your pain might be eased, but you would be doing yourself harm for your exercise goals for whatever sporting activities you engage in.

Asthma: severe asthma can be treated with low dose corticosteroids chronically, but it's associated with many side effects. I would recommend speaking with your physician.

Accepted Answer

Yes: Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) can be damaging both to eggs and sperm and therefore needs to be monitored closely by your rheumatologist and fertility doctor.  Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide) is also considered class d in pregnancy suggesting risk of fetal harm.  Long term Prednisone therapy has little effect on sperm production or ovulation.

Talk with your doc: It is quite possible that a lower dose of prednisone than prescribed is all you need to treat your asthma, but though you feel fine at the time of the lower dose it may not have been enough to resolve the inflammatory process that caused the attack.  That can result in a rebound attack more harmful than the original one.  Tell your doc what you've done, they will guide you on further care

i'm weaning off prednisone for polymyalgia was at 15 mg down to 5mg now and decrease every 2 weeks by 1mg till i reach 3mg. than stay at that.. i don't understand why i would have to stay at 3mg.?

: Presumably your doctor wants to assure your PMR remains inactive. 3 mg prednisone daily is harmless; probably there is no good reason not to follow that advice. This is something to discuss with your doctor.

YES: Add an antihistamine or anti- vertigo medication such as meclizine, dramamine, Zyrtec or Benadryl.
