Well tolerated: The majority of people on pravatatin don't even know they're taking it. Occasionally there is generalized muscle aching which improves on a smaller dose. Nausea, headache, rash fatigue, dizziness and stomach pain are listed as side effects but i rarely see them.  If you think it's causing a side effect, the protocol is to stop it till the symptom resolves and then restart it to see if it returns.

Caution: Excessive alcohol intake can potentially lead to liver dysfunction and/or damage. Pravastatin can potentially do the same. Taken together the risk increases. Alcohol consumption in moderation (couple of drinks a day) in individuals with no history of liver disease, while on statins, would be unlikely to cause a problem. Periodic monitoring of liver function should be done.

Pravostatin maybe: There is an interaction between amlodipine and statin drugs which can cause a breakdown in muscle tissues. It is more common with Simvastatin than pravachol (pravastatin). The recommendations say Simvastatin dose should be 20mg or less if taking amlodipine. So both of your choices are ok. But assume risk slightly higher with simvastatin. Note Simvastatin maybe more effective in lowering cholesterol.

Yes to some: Pravachol (pravastatin) is a statin that will reduce triglycerides (not too much though) and raise HDL (again not too much. As far as metabolic syndrome- this includes diabetes as well as high bp, etc. These will not likely to be helped by a statin. They should be treated with appropriate meds or life style changes (diet and exercise).

Depends on meds: Generally yes, but avoid taking with drugs like fenofibrate, clofibrate, colchicine. Ask a pharmacist which drugs should not be taken together.
