for a diagnosis of pot syndrome does heart rate have to be sustained at the three minute mark after standing? also do you have to go from lying to sitting to standing or lying to standing to check for pots? keeping journal for my doctor?

: From supine to standing position, tachycardia is persisted beyond 3 minutes. Good luck.

Fad: It's the "in-diagnosis" to have now. It's a fad. It's overdiagnosed, IMO. There are many examples of fad diagnoses over the years  (that doesn't mean some people don't actually have these)  hypoglycemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, mitral valve prolapse, fibromyalgia. Low T (promoted by the drug companies). Now it's POTs.

i have pots. how can i live normally & continue with this syndrome?

Neurology consult: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (pots) is livable. A neurologist can evaluate your condition, make suggestions such as elastic compression stockings and/or medications to manage symptoms, and refer to other specialists as appropriate. Do put your feet up above heart level for 10-20 minutes 3 or more times a day. Aerobic exercise promotes healthy blood return to the heart. Good luck!

POTS syndrome: Unfortunately this is a condition about which we  do not fully know yet. There are some meds which might help. You should be seen in a university center for any new developments in treatment.

No: No one knows the cause of pots. It is over-diagnosed and a current fad. Assuming you truly have pots, it should be treated for symptom control only.

can you have both ist and pots syndrome together was diagnosed with ist but wanted pots ruled out first. then was diagnosed with pots! not sure now?

Dysautonmia: Ist ;pots are both poorly understood conditions - that may indeed overlap . Pure ist - patients are continuously tachycardic - or a sig higher baseline pulse.With simple exertion the heart rate can soar, very challenging to treat - bblockers etc have only modest efficacy . Ablation is sometimes required.  Pots is likely a disorder of vascular resistance - measures to increase fluid intake can help.

30yr have 4 kids youngest is 6mths have suddenly developed pots syndrome i'm struggling to get thru each day what can i do? why do i have it suddenly?

Second opinion: You may want to seek a second opinion both on the diagnosis and therapy being instituted.  In general, while the syndrome is somewhat heterogeneous, most patients who are treated do relatively well.  Good luck.

POTS: Syndrome is a group of symptoms
pots, is postural orthostatic and tachycardia, is a dysfunction of blood pressure and heart rate , it is not fatal.

why does increasing salt in diet help pots syndrome?

Accepted Answer

: An increase in the salt increases your blood volume and may partially help prevent the decrease in the blood pressure leading to dizziness, fainting etc. Please ask your physician the reason for the recommendation rather than blindly following the recommendation.

Paragangliomas: Some of the paragangliomas are catecholamine producing extra adrenal tumors, which could cause or worsen pots syndrome.
