Knee pain: It sounds as if you may have something wrong with your meniscus or cartilage in your knee.  Did you have an injury to your knee.  I suggest you see your doctor so they can do an examination and check all the other ligaments and tendons.  Also you may need a MRI of your knee.

Doesn't sound good: We all have to exercise, use our different muscles, and stretch. As the years go by, things can happen... especially by age 50. If it feels and sounds like something ripped in the inner calf, but the Achilles tendon above the heel is ok, a person maybe tore her medial gastrocnemius calf muscle. Severity depends on how much muscle is torn (type of muscle strain). Can go to see Orthopedics and PT.

Facet joint popping: More than likely this is caused by popping of the little connecting joints of the vertebra called facets joints. It usually is no significance unless accompanied by pain.  It is similar to cracking your knuckles.

See a doctor: Popping can be caused by many things. Some people are just prone to popping and it is normal for them. A torn cartilage can cause popping.  If a knee injury is not completely healed and the knee remains a little swollen, the extra fluid will cause it to pop with range of motion, just like a finger joint. If it is painless i would ignore it. If it hurts you should have it checked out.
