None if...: Used. As prescribed, MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) has been shown to be safe and effective. It's even been recommended as the number one choice for children also.

Equal: If taken properly they are equally safe. Suprep is easier to take because the volume is less. Given the large volume required for Golytely (polyethylene glycol) I rarely recommend it, except in hospitalized patients since it is more available. Both should be taken in split doses, both the evening before and about 4 hrs before the procedure for best results.

Your voiced concern makes me question: for what symptoms has it been prescribed to you, what is the intended dose &amp; duration of use, what have you tried before, what tests have been run prior to starting the product, what other symptoms do you have (weight loss, bleeding, pain), what's the underlying disease?

No: miralax (polyethylene glycol) stays in the Gastrointestinal tract and doesnt get absorbed into the body, so their should be no neurologic affects. Even if you have Gilbert's disease, which affects the liver, the miralax (polyethylene glycol) doesnt go to the liver at all. It just draws water into the intestinal tract

NO LAXATIVE: should be used daily!
Hard Stool can be safely treated with COLACE (docusate sodium) (which is iteself NOT a laxative)
You should discuss IBS C (Irritable Bowel Syndrome-Constipation) with your PCP (Primary Care Provider)!!

No: Mitral ax is a stool bulkimg agent. It would be unusual to have reflux symptoms from this agent.

Many use it longer: You should find out why you have chronic constipation first such as ruling out thyroid disease etc..If no underlying disease, try the natural way such as fibers, roughage, and adequate fluid daily. This med is relatively safe to use and many patients use it for months to yrs. Like any other med, use smallest effective dose for shortest possible time. Consult doc. Good luck.

Abdominal problems: Miralax (polyethylene glycol) dosed at 17 gm/day( a heaping tablespoon in 4-8 ounces of fluid) max 34gm/day. Some side effects are abdominal pain/bloating, diarrhea, cramping, gas, rash. High doses particularly  in elderly  can cause excessive diarrhea/ stool frequency which may result in dehydration.  Stop use if fecal urgency/incontinence occurs. Do not use  for more than 2 weeks except directed by physician.
